Gene Veith made the comment that the church needs to be "thermostatic." "In the postmodern age," he writes, "the thermostatic church needs to emphasize truth and morality" (Veith, Gene. Postmodern Times, p. 231).
Based on what you learned in your study of ethics, write a four-page reflective essay in which you illustrate the truth of Gene Veith's comment as it relates to morality based on your own personal experience with the postmodern culture.
Bear the following in mind when writing a reflective essay:
"Write a reflective essay based on something you experienced or observed. Describe the occasion vividly so that readers can understand what happened and will care about what you have to say about it. In reflecting on the particular occasion, make some general statements exploring its possible meanings or cultural significance. Consider what the occasion might imply about how people in our society behave toward one another, what they value, and what assumptions or stereotypes they may hold consciously or unconsciously. Think of reflective writing as a stimulating conversation in which you seek to expose - and perhaps question - your readers' attitudes and beliefs as well as your own" (Axelrod, Rise B., Charles R. Cooper. Reading Critically, Writing Well. p. 132).
