The proliferation of widely diverse worldviews in an ever-increasing global community makes it a priority that Christian students develop what Harry Blamires called "the Christian mind." This is nothing less than what the Apostle Paul called having the "mind of Christ." (1 Cor. 2:16) Students must be prepared to think Biblically about all areas of life; they must be equipped "to give a reason for the hope that is in you." (1 Pet. 3:15)
The Christian Worldview Course is taught by Rick Patton, Headmaster of the Aleithia Learning Community. He has taught this course for the past fourteen years in the ALC setting. This course is open to any 10th, 11th, or 12th grader.
OVERALL OBJECTIVES
Using the Building a Christian Worldview Series, the Christian Worldview Course contains three complementary objectives:
The student will explore through critical reading the basic tenets of Christian theism as they relate to such crucial questions of meaning, purpose, and values.
After assimilating this content, the student will be challenged to articulate a coherent Christian worldview through critical writing.
Furthermore, the student will evaluate through critical analysis the contemporary presence of worldviews in their immediate, national, and global context.
COURSE PROCEDURES
Weekly Format: The Christian Worldview Course will proceed on a weekly basis consisting of…
…a critical reading assignment,
…content mastery exercises,
…critical writing activities,
…and a critical analysis of worldviews in the contemporary context.
Other educational activities, such as content-based tests, will be included in each course, but completed on a different time schedule. Students will complete the course with a formal presentation notebook consisting of all of their course work. Easy-to-follow instructions for each week's activities are included in the Building a Christian Worldview Series Study Guides, which can be purchased from the instructor or on this site.
