Making sense of post-high school choices can be overwhelming. One resource that can help as one piece of the post-high school puzzle is the Differential Aptitude Tests® (DAT®). These tests measure students in eight key areas directly related to successful college and career performance.
General Cognitive Abilities:
1. Verbal Reasoning
2. Numerical Ability
These tests measure abilities to learn in either an occupational or training setting, or specifically the ability to learn from books and manuals, self instruction, trainers, teachers, or mentors.
Perceptual Abilities:
3. Abstract Reasoning
4. Mechanical Ability
5. Space Relations
These tests measure abilities that are important when dealing with things, rather than people or words.
Clerical and Language Skills:
6. Spelling
7. Language Usage
8. Clerical Speed and Accuracy
These tests measure abilities necessary to perform various types of skills.
The Career Interest Inventory (CII) is a career-guidance instrument designed to provide information about students' educational goals, interest in a variety of school subjects and school-related activities, and interest in fields of work. This information helps students explore educational and occupational alternatives, learn about careers, and set goals for the future. The Career Interest Inventory was standardized with the Differential Aptitude Tests®, Fifth Edition (DAT®), providing students' aptitude and interest comparisons when the two tests are given together.
